Giraffes are the tallest mammals on Earth. Their legs alone are taller than many humans—about 6 feet. They can run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances, or cruise at 10 mph over longer distances. Giraffes spend most of their lives standing up; they even sleep and give birth standing up.

Giraffes are the world's tallest mammals, thanks to their towering legs and long necks. A giraffe's legs alone are taller than many humans—about 6 feet . These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances and cruise comfortably at 10 miles an hour over longer distances.

Giraffes live primarily in savanna areas in the sub-Saharan region of Africa. Their extreme height allows them to eat leaves and shoots located much higher than other animals can reach. In particular, they seek out acacia trees. Their long tongues are helpful in eating because they help pull leaves from the trees.

Three hearts, to be exact. There is a systemic (main) heart. Two lesser hearts pump blood to the gills where waste is discarded and oxygen is received. They work like the right side of the human heart.

Hagfish have primitive circulatory systems composing of four hearts and 5-15 pairs of gills. The main heart, known as branchial heart, pumps the blood to all parts of the body while the other three hearts serve as accessory pumps.

Gladiator Description

A gladiator (Latin: gladiator, "swordsman", from gladius, "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals. ... The origin of gladiatorial combat is open to debate.

n Latin, the name Gladiator literally translates as 'swordsman'. They were professional fighters who fought in ancient Roman times, in front of a crowd, usually in large amphitheatres, including the Colosseum.

Gladiatorial games (called munera since they were originally “duties” paid to dead ancestors) gradually lost their exclusive connection with the funerals of individuals and became an important part of the public spectacles staged by politicians and emperors (click here for some modern assessments of the culture.

The bones revealed that the typical food eaten by gladiators was wheat, barley and beans - and this echoed the contemporary term for gladiators as the "barley men". There was little sign of meat or dairy products in the diet of almost all of these professional fighters, who performed in front of Roman audiences.

Gladiators customarily kept their prize money and any gifts they received, and these could be substantial. Tiberius offered several retired gladiators 100,000 sesterces each to return to the arena. Nero gave the gladiator Spiculus property and residence "equal to those of men who had celebrated triumphs."

Octopus

Measurement: Angles 3

This is the largest species of octopus in the world. While common lore suggests these giant invertebrates can reach more than 30 feet (9.1 m) across and weigh more than 600 pounds (272 kg), more reliable reports put the record-holder at 400 pounds (182 kg) with an arm span of 25 feet (7.6 m).

Giant Pacific octopuses can consume 2–4% and gain 1–2% of their body weight each day. That's the equivalent of a 150-pound person eating up to six pounds of food and gaining up to three pounds every single day! .

The giant Pacific octopus is considered to be long-lived compared to other species, with lifespans typically 3–5 years in the wild. Many other octopuses go through a lifespan in one year, from egg to end of life.

Giant Pacific octopuses have huge, bulbous heads and are generally reddish-brown in color. Like the other members of the octopus family, though, they use special .

pigment cells in their skin to change colors and textures, and can blend in with even the most intricately patterned corals, plants, and rocks.
